The Plan, oil paint, spray paint, acrylic paint, 30 in x 40 in, 2018
The Plan is based on the house I was abused in as a child. Using a bird’s eye view and using memory to form the shapes that express the variety of emotions throughout the house. Rooms merged when emotions were the same. Each type of emotion has a color with its own pattern. The blue expresses where I did not have a strong emotional attachment, yellow expresses happy, muddied yellow expresses mild discomfort, green expresses feeling gross and unpleasant, and black expresses where abuse occurred, which caused the most trauma. I reversed Jackson Pollock’s method of dripping paint, as he avoided the edges and I embraced the edges that expressed walls and separation from the different room’s of emotion.
